About the Construction

This is a 4-piece laminated board. Joining multiple sections helps control the natural movement of the wood and improves stability over time. The seams are aligned with the board’s lines, so the playing surface feels consistent when pieces are placed.

About the Flat Grain

This board is cut in itame, or flat grain — where the log is cut away from the center, producing grain lines with a gentle curve and natural flow. Compared to straight-grain boards, the surface has more visual movement and a quiet warmth to it.

Thickness and Feel

The board is 2-sun thick (approximately 6.1 cm). This is a standard thickness for a table board, offering a well-balanced feel between weight and the sensation when placing pieces.

Aging and Natural Characteristics

No knots, a yellow tone, and grain with natural movement. Kaya deepens gradually to amber with use, and flat-grain boards tend to develop more visible character as the color changes — the surface gains texture and warmth over time.
