About the Wood

This board is made from a single plank of Aya National Forest Kaya — timber grown in the national forests of Aya, Miyazaki Prefecture. Kumasu has sourced logs from this forest for many years. The grain is fine and even, and the tone is a calm, settled yellow.

About the Construction

This is a single-plank board, cut directly from one log. The natural character of the wood appears as it is across the entire surface.

About the Straight Grain

The board is cut in masame, or straight grain — taken from the center of the log, producing parallel lines that run straight along the length of the board. The fine grain and the clean straight lines work together, giving the surface a composed, orderly appearance.

Thickness and Feel
