2-sun Shogi Table Board – Kyushu Kaya, 3-piece laminated, Straight-grain cut

¥27,000

About the Wood

This board is made from kaya grown in Kyushu. The tone is a calm yellow, and the straight grain runs evenly across the surface. There is a blue stain on the back face of the board. This kind of discoloration occurs naturally when moisture is present in the wood during growth. It does not affect the board’s structure or durability. The playing surface is the top face; the mark on the back has no bearing on how the board performs.

About the Construction

This is a three-piece laminated board. Laminated construction is resistant to warping and provides reliable stability for regular use over many years.

About the Straight Grain

This board is cut in masame, or straight grain — the log is cut toward its center, producing parallel lines running the length of the board. Straight-grain boards are known for their composed appearance and dimensional stability over time.

Thickness and Feel

The board is 2-sun thick (approximately 6.4 cm). The weight and resonance when placing pieces are well-balanced at this thickness.

Choosing This Board

The playing surface is clean and free of knots. For those who can accept the blue stain on the back face, this is a board that offers good value relative to its quality and price.
